Who do you think is today's most dynamic entrepreneur?
Hilly Kristal, the founder and owner of punk/hardcore club CBGB.
1) Why do you think this person is one of today's most dominant entrepreneurs?
Hilly founded CBGB as a country and bluegrass club, but noticed the rise of Punk in the UK. He correctly predicted that Punk would gain popularity in the US, so he changed the theme of the club. CBGB soon became a tour staple for Punk bands world-wide, and almost every big-name band played there, including The Ramones, Black Flag, Iggy Pop, and Green Day.
2)Do you agree with the ways in which this entrepreneur has marketed his or her image?
Yes. His entire career was centered around Punk-rock, and Hilly was, in every sense of the word, a Punk. He was able to connect with the patrons of CBGB because he was one of them.
3)What affect do you think that this entrepreneur has left on the market place?
Hilly and CBGB brought a consumer side to Punk. Before CBGB, the Punk scene was totally underground. The club brought it as far into the market place as Punk ethos would allow.
